Final stage 33k

Me and jon had some rivalry banter last night and the start times for todays race were staggered to try and get everyone to finish around the same time. Me and john were drawn together for 7.20am start. I said I was going to do sub 4 hours, rather than specificaly race Jon though. We set off on the 1st 10k leg. After 300m Jon eased off behind and I never saw him again until the finish line; he came in about 20 minutes after me I believe. I did 58 mins to cp1. Legs 2 and 3 were sandy or were a long incline, the 33k stage much tougher than I expected it to be. I passed several of the earlier starters, no one passed me. The final run in was great, with all the crew there to greet us, and an ice cold can of Coke or Beer waiting for you, depending on preference. I finished in 3hrs 40 for the final stage, 5th that day! 6th overall for the event, and very happy with my performance. I get back to the UK on Tuesday. I'll work on my race report and post up the photo's later this week. Thank you for all your support this week. Parents, family, and friends from everywhere, including friends from the MDS forum. Speak to you soon. Rich

  4. Rich, you are awesome! I saw some of the videos on YouTube posted by the race - you look pretty beat in a few. Well done getting this one done. Can't wait to get your details on the race.

  5. Thanks everyone. The day 4 video on youtube shows me in a pretty sorry state. I had not slept for a few days and I was in a very confused mental state. I was struggling to focus and understand the route instructions. I took 2 hours rest at that CP before summoning up the mental strength to continue. As soon as the sun set, I knew I would get stronger, and I did. The videos don't give the full picture, so I'll explain in detail in my write up.
